JoAnn Williams Goddard
JoAnn Williams Goddard, 44, Olde Homestead Village, Portland, beloved wife of David Goddard, died unexpectedly in Washington, DC on Monday (April 28, 2008), while on assignment as a journalist. She was born in Newark, OH, on July 25, 1963, to the proud parents of James and Peggy Williams. JoAnn attended school in Ohio and Indiana before graduating with honors from Canton High School in Canton, and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She was currently associated editor for Soundings Publications, Essex. JoAnn worked at Soundings for 10 years. Prior to being promoted to associated editor at Soundings Trade Only, she was a staff writer for Soundings for nearly seven years. Prior to Soundings, JoAnn was a reporter for the Hartford Courant, assigned to the Middletown office. JoAnn received several awards through the years for her writing from Boat Writers International and recently a national APEX award in 2007. But her most rewarding experience was as a wife, mother, daughter and grandmother. In addition to her loving husband she is survived by her son Lincoln, who attends Bard College in New York State, her daughter Krista, who attends Suffolk University in Boston, her son David of Norwich, her grandson Jeremy of Hebron, her parents of Canton, her brother Jim Williams of Windsor, her sister Sandra Delehoy and nephews Tyler and Ryan Delehoy, all of Canton, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She also leaves to mourn several friends, coworkers at Soundings and avid readers of the boating community. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Windsor Independent Livings (WILA), P.O. Box 902, Windsor, CT, 06095. Calling hours are Saturday (May 3, 2008) at 10 a.m. prior to service at 11 a.m. at the Portland Memorial funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Charles Rodney Miller
Charles Rodney Miller, II, 41, of Canton, died Tuesday (October 12, 2004). He was born May 16, 1963, in Hartford, son of Betty (Knestrick) Miller of Boca Raton, FL, formerly of Canton Center and the late Roger A. Miller. He resided on Barbourtown Road in Canton Center and had lived in Canton all his life. He was a graduate of Canton High School, class of 1981. Mr. Miller owned and operated Miller Landscaping Co. on Ramp Road in Canton for many years. He was a member of the Connecticut Nurserymen's Association, taking care of the great outdoors and he was an avid deep sea Master Diver. He loved children and animals, especially his beloved German shepherd, Murphy. Rod possessed a keen sense of humor and entertained us all throughout his life. Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Brian Vanek of Granby; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Deb Miller of Fryeburg, ME; an uncle he was named after, Charles Rodney Miller, I, of Canton; five nieces and nephews, Jesse and Melissa Vanek, Cameron Vanek, Brandon Miller and Chris Miller. A memorial funeral service will be celebrated, Saturday, October 16 (2004), 2 p.m. at Collinsville Congregational Church, 7 South Street, Collinsville, with the Rev. James S. Wheeler officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, P.O. Box 142, Bloomfield, CT 06002. Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton, has charge of arrangements.

Laura Stankelis
Laura Stankelis, 32, of Barnes Hill Road, Burlington, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 1995) suddenly at her home. She was born June 27, 1963, in New Britain, daughter of John and Rosalie (Dobrick) Stankelis, and had lived in Collinsville prior to moving to Burlington. She was employed at Cherry Brook Health Care, Canton, and as a Home Health Aide at McLean Home, Simsbury. Besides her parents, she is survived by three brothers, John, David, and Paul; two nephews; several aunts and uncles. Graveside funeral service and burial will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at Village Cemetery, Collinsville, with the Rev. George Smith officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Cherry Brook Health Care Center, Resident Council Fund, 102 Dyer Ave., Collinsville 06019.
